Open access to information is the cornerstone of a free democratic society. Equal access for all must not be limited by any physical boundaries and society must continue to make provisions this access.
It is the mission of the Friona Public Library to provide ready access to information, to supplement the educational process, to preserve the timeless act of reading as a pastime, to promote awareness and support for all types of literacy and to enhance the wonder of childhood learning for its users on the lifelong pathway of learning in a literate society.
Library Card Information:
Residents Residents of the City of Friona may be issued a free library card. This card is good for a period of 1 year, renewable annually. Currently, tax support is received from the City of Friona taxpayers only.
To receive a card, you must present photo identification and proof of legal residence and to fill out a library card application. A valid driver's license, utility bill, or voter's registration card are examples of proof of address. Registration can only be done at the library and the card will be mailed to your address. The library card is required for service. There is a $3 charge for lost cards.
Patrons under 18 years of age should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who must show proof of residence and identity and also must sign the application form. A signature is also required for Internet access.
Non-residents
Currently, there is no charge for non-resident borrowers to register for a library card because the Friona Public Library participates in the state programs TexShare and Loan Star. However, a parent's signature is required for users under 18 years of age and for Internet access.
Loan Periods and Fine rates Following are loan periods and circulation information for materials from Friona Public Library:
Print/Audio Materials 14 days 10 cents fine per library day, 1 day's grace DVD/VHS Materials 1 day 50 cents fine per library day, no grace period
With few exceptions, materials may be borrowed for a longer period if requested at the time of checkout. All materials are renewable twice unless they are reserved by another person. Materials may be renewed by telephone or through the library Web site by accessing the catalog and clicking on "My Account". Your library card number and PIN number will be required for online access.
Patrons may request a vacation loan period for any item except new books, DVDs, or items on reserve for other patrons. The vacation loan period may be no longer than double the original loan period if necessary.
Drop-Off Locations and After Hours
Inside library - during library hours only. After hours, please use our bookdrop in S. E. corner near our back entrance in alley.
The Friona Public Library computers are available for public use during our regularly scheduled hours. Parents must either accompany their children under 18 or sign a permission form for their use of the library computers. Our community standards of decency do apply for any Internet Use. Time limits also apply. Patron record must be free from fines or overdues. Limited guest use with ID.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Policy
The Friona Public Library participates in the national interlibrary loan program that permits the library to borrow materials for its patrons from other libraries. This interlibrary loan service is available to all patrons whose record is clear of fines and overdue items.
Books, photocopies of periodical articles, or electronic media not owned by our library may be requested through interlibrary loan although there may be limits imposed.
The Friona Public Library does not charge for interlibrary loan service other than return postage; however, the patron is responsible for any charges or fines imposed by the lending library including insurance, copy, loan, lost or damaged item fees.
The library may restrict the number of items requested by an individual or meter the number of items referred through interlibrary loan when necessary to ensure fair, equitable and timely service within the constraints of budget and staffing.
